Water Pretreatment

Water pretreatment is a process where chemicals with specific properties and formulations are added to incoming water sources to aid in the removal of impurities, contaminants while inhibiting corrosion and fouling as part of a complex water treatment system.  At Alliant Chemical, we specialize in high-performance industrial water treatment chemicals for the pretreatment of incoming water used in RO water generation, heating and cooling water systems.

What is Water Pretreatment?

Water pretreatment is an essential step in the overall treatment of incoming water for critical processes. It’s crucial to ensure that the water entering the industrial water treatment system is free of impurities and contaminants so that it can be used for various processes without causing any harm to equipment, the chemical process or the environment.

Incoming water quality can have a significant impact on a metal finishing process.

Often, a metal finishing process may require high-quality water produced by RO membrane treatment systems. Hot water systems and closed-loop chillers are additional ancillary processes that need the correct industrial water treatment chemistries to ensure these systems operate properly.

Avoiding costly maintenance costs and poor system performance requires a chemical supplier that understands the needs of these systems. Alliant Chemical can offer a complete line of water treatment chemistries that will meet the needs of your ancillary process equipment.

The Importance of Water Pretreatment

Effective water pretreatment is critical for proper function of water using systems as it maintains an equipment’s efficiency and performance. Numerous manufacturing processes require high-quality water to operate effectively. Without proper water pretreatment, the incoming water can contain impurities that cause corrosion or scaling in equipment, leading to frequent breakdowns.

More benefits of water pretreatment:

  • Eco-friendly: Proper water pretreatment chemical selection plays a substantial role in protecting the environment by eliminating harmful pollutants from the water pretreatment process before it’s discharged into the environment. It ensures compliance with environmental regulations and promotes sustainable and responsible practices.
  • Protect RO membrane treatment systems: Water pretreatment can enhance the efficiency and lifespan of the RO water treatment system by removing impurities that can foul or damage the system.
  • Cost-effective: Water pretreatment can save money in the long run by preventing costly replacements or repairs due to poor performance caused by contaminants.

Featured Technologies

We offer the following water treatment chemistries with specialized formulations to achieve optimal results

ALLIANT AWT™ 3003 is an alkaline liquid added to the feed water going into the low-pressure hot water heating system. The ALLIANT AWT™3003 is an anodic oxidizing corrosion inhibitor, providing corrosion protection against oxygen attack.

ANTICHLOR 427 is a modified, odorless liquid sodium bisulfite formulation that removes free and combined chlorine from reverse osmosis (RO) feedwaters. It is also less prone to air oxidation than equivalent solutions, offering a longer shelf life than straight sodium bisulfate solutions.

ALLIANT AWT™ 3004 is typically used for soft water make-up (total hardness levels in make-up water of less than 5.0 ppm CaCO3) low-pressure boilers of 600 psi or less.  ALLIANT AWT™ 3004 contains an alkalinity booster and sulfite for control of the corrosive effects of dissolved oxygen.
